SNL Digital Short: On the Ground

Be The First to CommentI know this isn’t cupcake-related, but we’ve been laughing about this video all weekend. Too funny.
Be The First to CommentWe knew when we started doing printed cupcakes that it would eventually lead to some bizarre requests. We didn’t, however, anticipate this.

Our friend Kail wanted something special for his brother’s birthday, so somehow he came to the conclusion that Nick-At-Nite vs. Capcom cupcakes were the best way to go about that. Honestly, we applaud his strangeness. After all, we can’t deny that we’ve always wanted to print cupcakes with the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on them.
1 Comment, Add Your OwnLast weekend, members of The Post Punk Kitchen (a vegan message board) had a meetup in Rutherford. This meetup was at the nearby Rutherford Pancake House, which has an awesome vegan menu that we, here at Sweet Avenue, can vouch for. Suffice it to say that we’re quite pleased they opened up a mere 4 blocks away.

After they hit up the Rutherford Pancake House, they dropped by here for dessert! We’ve met many of them before, and some of them are among our most awesome regular customers, so it was great to see them all together for a while. They even managed to bring along JoJo (the pink-haired girl) from the UK! I think she’s officially traveled the farthest for our cupcakes, so far (Asians, Australians and Pacific Islanders, get cracking!), which is awesome!
It was a lot of fun hanging out with you folks, and we hope you’ll all stop by again soon!

Last September two good friends left us for an overseas adventure. They said they didn’t want to leave us, but they got a great deal through Jet Blue and the tickets were non-refundable. We understood, but were still sad. They went off to Australia. and from there headed off to Asia and Europe for a 3-continent adventure. They apparently had a great time meeting new people, seeing the sights, and taking lots of photos.
They managed to walk the Great Wall of China, climb the Eiffel Tower, take a gondola ride in Venice, went bar-hopping in Amsterdam, and spent a little time hanging out with the locals in Barcelona, but they didn’t manage to bring us back so much as a snowglobe. We’ll admit we’re a little hurt, but more than anything else, we’re just happy to have them both back.
So yes, it’s official. Lavender Lemon and Lemon Raspberry are back on the menu every Saturday and Sunday starting today! This should be the case for the foreseeable future, or at least until they get restless again…
Oh, and In case anyone has forgotten, Lavender Lemon is a lemon cake, topped with lavender frosting and filled with fresh lemon-curd, while Lemon Raspberry is a lemon cake filled with raspberry preserves and topped with lemon frosting and a fresh raspberry. They’re both freakin’ delicious, too. Just incase you were wondering.
1 Comment, Add Your OwnWow. Just wow. You guys are like a pack of rabid cupcake-loving beasts sometimes. We were getting calls non-stop yesterday asking about our secret flavor. We held out until the end, though. No one found out without coming in to check it out, and everyone who DID come in to check it out was pretty pleased.
So now that we’re totally sold out, we’ll let everyone in on the big secret. The mysterious flavor was…

Yes, it’s got bacon on it. Vegan soy bacon, of course. We know the whole bacon cupcake thing isn’t new, but we’re also pretty sure there aren’t many other VEGAN bacon cupcakes. And just for the record, it’s a delicious maple walnut cake, topped with a buttery glaze, drizzled with maple syrup, and of course, topped off with a slice of vegan bacon.
Now, based on the reaction we got, we’re going to make this a regular cupcake on our menu soon, but until we’re able to assign it to a permanent schedule we’re just going to be having it erratically whenever we feel like making it.
Wait, wait, calm down. I hear you. You want to know how you can get your mitts on this earth shattering beauty of a cupcake. Well, it’s hard to say, but your best chance of getting a heads-up over everyone else as to when it’ll be available is to either follow us on Twitter or join our Facebook group. We’ll give those folks a little advance notice so they can swing by for vegan bacon maple goodness before anyone else.
So there you have it.

Today is Kristina’s birthday! We celebrated by giving her a giant bag of totally awesome gifts, which included some Family Guy Madlibs, a Cranium Sudoku game, a giant sack of onion rings, some candy, chocolates, and dog-food cookies. And yes, before you ask, she does know how lucky she is to get such awesome stuff.
One more present is still on it’s way. Where are you, awesome UPS man??
4 Comments Already, Join the ConversationAnd now for something totally unrelated to cupcakes… We were just having a discussion here at Sweet Avenue about who the best TV dad is. Needless to say, we couldn’t come to an agreement, so we need your help.
Here are a few of our favorites:
First is Phillip Banks. He was technically Will Smith’s uncle, but he was Carlton’s dad. He was also a judge, which is pretty awesome.
Tim “The Toolman” Taylor. He probably shouldn’t even be on this list because he’s really pretty lame. Anytime your fake-tv-show co-host and your neighbor are both cooler than you, there are problems.
Okay, so Danny Tanner’s a neatfreak who lives with his dead wife’s brother and a weird guy who plays with woodchuck puppets, but he’s still pretty cool. I mean, he hosts a TV show, and… yeah…
Personally, I don’t see how you can get more awesome than Carl Winslow. I mean, really, the guy is a cop and carries a gun and he had the self-discipline to never use it on Steve Urkel. The guy’s practically a saint. He also busted up a drug ring that one time.
Homer Simpson’s a pretty terrible dad, and I’m almost certain Child Services have taken Bart and Lisa away at least once. Also, all three kids have run away from home a few times. Oh, and he did inadvertently assist in Maude’s death… Wait, where was this going?
A lot of you may not recognize this guy, but he’s Keith Mars, from the best show to ever get canceled by UPN/CW. Keith’s awesome because he’s a private eye who lost his job as Sheriff. He’s also constantly bailing out his daughter from legal trouble, and he shot a guy. A few guys, actually.
Noah Bennet is either an awesome dad or the worst dad ever. The writers haven’t really decided yet, but that’s okay. The guy had an invisible man as his partner and he spends his days tracking down villians. And lying to his daughter.
Danielle and Kristina insisted that I include Cliff Huxtable. Blahblahjellopuddingblahblahuglysweatersblahblah. I never liked this show. They did, though.
And if anyone votes for these two, you’re not allowed in our store again.
So quick, leave a comment! Who’s your favorite? One of these, or someone else entirely?

Woot.com has this shirt today for $10. I think common sense would dictate that this particular shirt is worth at least three times that amount, purely because it has a dinosaur AND a cupcake on the same shirt. This shirt tells the world: “You can call me ‘Dinocake’, if that’s easier than ‘Cupcakeosaur’.”
Of course, we bought one for each of us!

Apple Pie for President. I mean, who’s more American than Apple Pie? What’s not to like? Oh, sure, he’s a little light on foreign policy experience, but he’s topped with cream cheese frosting. And he may not be terribly well versed on the economy, but he’s stuffed with an apple filling.
Apple Pie is available at Sweet Avenue every Tuesday (including election day) and Thursday. Yes, 5 days off every week is a lot, but hey, some people think taking a lot of vacation time is downright Presidential.
1 Comment, Add Your OwnBecause we just got this in the mail:

I guess it’s a good thing we’ve got Pumpkin Spice starting on Saturday, because these guys are apparently gone until next Summer.
