*** Annoucement! *** The winner of the cupcake eating contest will receive: a Sweet Avenue gift certificate, an iTunes gift card, and a Target gift card, and eternal cupcake glory. In addition, we’d love to work with the winner on creating a special flavor based on their suggestions!

We didn’t think we needed to spell this out quite so bluntly, but after the email we just received, we think we should clear up some things about Cupcakefest.
Cupcakefest is held every year to raise money for a charity in need. This year we’re working with the Passaic Animal Shelter. We just received an email from someone who was angry with us and called us “greedy” for charging an entry fee for the cupcake eating contest. We were shocked, but apparently we need to make this more clear: EVERY SINGLE PENNY collected from donations, raffles, and the cupcake eating contest is going to the Passaic Animal Shelter. We are doing this entirely out-of-pocket, and have already spent hundreds on various permits, rentals, promotions, etc. That’s 100% of the money collected. Not whatever’s left after we recoup our expenses—just EVERYTHING. We are not keeping a dime to cover our own costs. We’re footing the bills for everything not covered by our awesome sponsors, so that the Passaic Animal Shelter can get the most money possible during this event.

Summer is a hard time for animal shelters, between kitten season, and people moving and being forced to give up their pets, the shelters get extremely overcrowded this time of year. We’re just doing our part using the resources we have (you people—our awesome customers) to help out an underfunded, needy shelter. Because we’ve got to look out for our furry friends.

Again, we just want to make sure everyone’s clear on where their money is going. If you don’t feel like you should have to pay to enter the cupcake eating contest, then you don’t have to. The event is still free to attend, and if you do enter our raffles or contest, you’ll be helping out needy animals, and for that we’ll be grateful.

We’ve changed the format of our raffles a bit, but don’t worry, it’s even better now! We’re now grouping together similar prizes, so that each ticket gives you multiple chances to win! When you buy your ticket, you can choose from any of the four raffles to enter your ticket in. For example, if you enter raffle #3, you’ll have 9 chances to win one of our doggie gift prizes!
