Cupcakefest Live - And Then There Were Machines

Cupcakefest - And Then There Were Machines from Sweet Avenue. Filmed and used with permission by Anthony Quintano - Quintano Media.

And Then There Were Machines performed second at Cupcakefest. They are a five-piece pop punk band from NJ. Their set consisted of all original songs, which can be heard on their MySpace page. Amanda Hansult from The Aquarian had this to say about their set:

Next up was female-fronted punk/rock band, And Then There Were Machines, who just recently finished playing big festival shows such as the Warped Tour and Bamboozle. They rocked it with a set full of upbeat original songs and, though I hate to do it just because I’m sure they’re hearing it from everyone, their lead singer has some pipes on her and I couldn’t help but think of that cute little redhead that’s blasting through everyone’s speakers right now. I’m sure you all know who I’m talking about; I will, though, say that they do have their own unique sound and are definitive in their own style and presence and that the comparison is meant to be a compliment based purely on vocal ability, that’s all (myspace.com/andthenthereweremachines).

Unfortunately this is the only video we have of And Then There Were Machines at the moment, but if anything else becomes available, we’ll link to it here.

Sweet Avenue Shirts!

Sweet Avenue Shirts

As some of you are aware, we recently received the first batch of our Sweet Avenue shirts. We think they look awesome, and apparently so do you because they’re going FAST. The tank tops are already sold out (with more on the way, don’t worry!), and the tees are going quickly. If you’d like to order one, they’re $18 each plus shipping. For now you can call (201-935-2253) or email us your order and we can get one sent out to you, but we’ll have a web store online soon so you can buy directly on our website.

All shirts are American Apparel brand. Both are “asphalt grey” which is a medium/dark grey color. The caption below the image reads “one cupcake to rule them all.”

And hey, if you order now, you’ll get to look badass like Davy:

(201) Bride

201 Bride

Sweet Avenue was featured in another bridal magazine! This time we had a spot in the premiere issue of the (201) Magazine spinoff, (201) Bride. The (201) magazines focus on Bergen County, NJ and the premiere issue of (201) Bride looks really slick and well put-together, so we were very happy to be included.

For the magazine, we designed a wedding cupcake tier in pink and brown with the Latin inscription Amor Vincit OmniaLove Conquers All. The spread and text is featured below.

Cupcakefest Live - Brian Keith

Cupcakefest - Brian Keith - I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (Wilco Cover). Filmed and used with permission by Anthony Quintano - Quintano Media.

We’re finally getting around to posting some of the awesome video from Cupcakefest. First up is Brian Keith’s set. Brian’s set consisted of folksy, alt-country, singer-songwriter covers. Amanda Hansult from The Aquarian had this to say about Brian’s set:

First on stage was Brian Keith, a local musician that brought us a beautiful acoustic set of covers. Though he was onstage alone, he still managed to captivate the crowd and keep all eyes and ears where they should be-on him (myspace.com/brianlapierre).

Brian did a great job of kicking off our show, and we all loved his set. Videos from his set can be seen at your choice of these video sites:

Cupcakefest in the Aquarian

We just wanted to update you guys with this article from The Aquarian (written by Amanda Hansult) about Cupcakefest. It sounds like she had a great time and enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed putting it on. All the bands went over pretty well, and she made a point to mention the awesome cause we raised money for.

The full text of the article can also be read at Amanda’s blog. Oh, and be sure to check out Amanda’s awesome clothing line, Archive Clothing.

We’ll have some more photos (and video) from Cupcakefest up shortly, so stick with us, we have a lot to sort through!

A Taste of Rutherford

A Taste of RutherfordA Taste of Rutherford

This past week we participated in the annual Taste of Rutherford food fair. What the event basically amounts to is a selection of the restaurant and food vendors in town setting up tables on the main street and giving away samples to the public. People buy tickets for admission and get to enjoy samples from lots of Rutherford eateries, Sweet Avenue included. The event drew out more people than I thought even lived in Rutherford, and we were pretty much pinned to our table the entire time.

A Taste of Rutherford

This was our first year doing it, and thanks to some warnings that the event is a LOT more popular than we had first anticipated we were able to weather the storm and give out over a thousand mini cupcakes and finish the entire event–2 and a half hours–before running out. We had a little variety, offering mini versions of Sexy Sadie, Jet Black, Snowball, and Chocolate Sundae. We think the little miniature Sundaes looked especially cute so we made extra of those, and we certainly needed them, as they proved to be among the most popular.

It was a lot of fun and I think our cupcakes went over pretty well (we had lots people coming back for seconds… and thirds… and sevenths…), so we’re glad everyone enjoyed themselves.
