Labor Day!

We will be open on Labor Day to celebrate the Rutherford Labor Day Street Fair! The street fair runs from 10am-5pm. The street fair is filled with live music, antiques, crafts, entertainment, food and of course - Sweet Avenue Bake Shop! Come visit us!

We will closed the following Tuesday, September 2nd. We will reopen on Wednesday, September 3rd.

Our 1 Year Anniversary

Thanks to everyone who came to our 1 year anniversary show on Sat. Aug. 23rd! We were lucky to have great weather, great company, and amazing bands! Thanks so much to Right as Rain, Kieran Hobler, Croft Minor, Mike TeeVee and Alex and the Horribles for putting on an awesome show!

Resignation

We received a very upsetting letter this morning. We hope that we will be able to find a suitable replacement for someone who has become a dear friend.

This is my formal notification that I am resigning from Sweet Avenue Bake Shop. August 22, 2008 will be my last day of employment.

I appreciate the opportunities I have been given here, and wish you much success in the future. I am going on a sabbatical to find myself. I hope that I shall be welcomed back come next Summer.

New menu!

We mentioned them before, but now they’re almost here! Stop by our shop soon because our new menu (designed by Kristina!) will be in effect next week. Among the new flavors will be White Chocolate Chai Latte, Green Tea, and more! Keep an eye on our website; our Menu page will be updated shortly to reflect the changes.

Just another reminder, our One-Year Anniversary show is still happening this Saturday, August 23rd from 12-6pm at Lincoln Park in Rutherford, NJ (right across the street from our shop). We’re going to have free frosting shots and lots of great live music.

We’re also going to be taking the following day off (Sunday, August 24th) to recover from the celebration. Don’t worry though, we’ll see you guys again when we reopen for our normal hours at 11am on Tuesday, August 26th.

We Won!

That’s right, thanks to your avalanche of votes, we won in Bergen Health & Life’s Reader’s Choice Poll. And not just one category, but FOUR! In addition to ‘Best Cupcake’ we also won ‘Best Chocolate Chip Cookie,’ ‘Best Dessert (Chocolate)’ and ‘Best Dessert (Non-Chocolate).’ This is a REALLY big deal, guys. We–a 100% VEGAN shop–beat EVERY (non-vegan) bakery in Bergen County. And not just bakeries, either. The fact that we won both ‘Best Dessert’ categories means we beat out every single restaurant, bakery and ice cream parlor in Bergen County. How awesome is that? And of course, it’s all thanks to you guys. You’re all awesome and we owe you big-time (which is why you should come to our one-year anniversary party and celebrate with us!).

Not a bad haul, we think. I don’t think we’re getting a 6-foot tall gold Sweet Avenue trophy or anything, but if we did, we’d share with you guys. But we DO get invited to Bergenfest ‘08, which is where the BEST of Bergen County get to showcase their stuff for hungry attendees. If anyone wants to join us, we’d love the company! Just sign up in advance at the website for a discount on the tickets. It sounds like fun to us. Free cupcakes, free food, free drinks, live music. Be there!

Sweet Avenue’s First Anniversary Party

Here at Sweet Avenue we’re getting ready to celebrate our first full year in the shop, so we figured the best way to do that would be with music! We’re throwing another show in Lincoln Park (across the street from our shop — 153 Park Ave, Rutherford, NJ 07070). It’ll be Saturday, August 23rd, 12-6pm. We’ve got a bunch of great bands lined up:
